Greek Orthodox Baby Baptism on Upper East Side

As a professional photographer, I'm always excited to capture special moments in people's lives, and I recently had the pleasure of photographing a Greek Orthodox baptism that took place in the beautiful Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity on the Upper East Side, for baby Aria and her family and friends.

Greek Orthodox baptisms differ from traditional Catholic ceremonies in several ways, offering unique photographic opportunities:

  • Full Immersion: Unlike the sprinkling of water in Catholic baptisms, Greek Orthodox infants are fully immersed in the baptismal font three times.

  • Chrismation: Immediately following the baptism, the priest performs the sacrament of Chrismation (confirmation); this additional ritual provides more chances for captivating shots.

  • Elaborate Ceremony: The full mass accompanying the baptism includes beautiful chanting and intricate rituals, allowing for a diverse range of photos throughout the two-hour event.

Here are some of my favorite images from this shoot (click/tap to view full-size and un-cropped):

All images in this blog post were shot on a Nikon D850, using a variety of lenses, all individually post-processed in Adobe Lightroom.
